Lendlease contact us following an incident at one of their sites, where a roofer slipped while carrying bitumen and spilt it on his legs causing burns, we are working to develop a test that will specify the correct garment for roofers to wear. Fortunately the man injured has now recovered and has no lasting damage – he is an experienced roofer and his quick thinking meant he got his trousers off quickly.
In partnership with Lendlease we are now working with SATRA to design a test that can be used to prove suitable fabrics to avoid this happening to anyone else. There are plenty of tests for molten metal but none for Bitumen.
Once the test is in place we will report – if anyone else has had issues with Bitumen injury we would be interested to hear of how it was resolved
